The Kemp Group sells and rents earth-moving and road construction equipment from seven branches in the Netherlands. As a service company, Kemp Group also has parts warehouses at almost all of their locations, in order to ensure the shortest possible downtime in the event of an unexpected machine malfunction. For the new parts warehouse at the De Meern location, they decided to improve efficiency. Jan De Graeve was involved as process supervisor for organising the new Kardex warehouse system.

“Jan’s offer appealed to us, partly because of his expertise and practical experience,” says Mike Frasa, Logistics employee. Accurately measuring the materials is a crucial first step for the optimal layout of a new warehouse module. With the two measuring and weighing systems that Jan supplied, we were able to work quickly and efficiently. Based on these measurements, Jan determined the sizes of the containers. It took us several weeks to make a decision about this, because we wanted to further increase efficiency. Jan was a valuable sounding board during the entire process, which took place under considerable time pressure. His proactive input, advice and flexibility enabled us to achieve a high level of efficiency in assigning the container sizes to the parts.”
Once the decisions had been made, the implementation of the storage system proceeded quickly and without any significant problems. “That was a relief because, as a service company, we couldn’t afford to be closed to our customers for long. Moving 7,000 parts in just two and a half days is something you can’t do without proper preparation. Jan knows exactly what’s feasible and has a practical approach. We’re very satisfied with the way he guided us.”
